Receiving Your Marching Orders
When you wake up in the morning, what could be your first thought?
I’m speaking to you, awakening Avatars.
You’ve felt this your whole life. A pull beyond the known, beyond the familiar, beyond even who you think you are. And at the same time, you’ve been fully inside the human experience, learning through love and loss, struggle and devotion, infatuation and disappointment.
That hasn’t been a contradiction.
It’s been your training.
Your spiritual Hero’s Journey didn’t look clean or linear. It looked like workshops and teachers, false starts and real initiations. People who betrayed you so you could learn discernment. People who loved you so you could stretch your capacity to receive. Again and again, your love nature was invited to grow out of performance and into its real potency.
And now, here we are.
We are living in one of the most intense and surreal periods any generation has known. Human technology has reached astonishing heights, while the most primitive and self-destructive aspects of our psyche are more visible than ever. It can feel hallucinogenic, like multiple realities colliding at once.
So when you wake up in the morning, what could be your first thought as an awakening Avatar?
There are many possibilities. I want to share one that has become very precious to me.
I ask for my marching orders.
I borrow the term loosely from the military, but this has nothing to do with force or obedience. I mean your marching orders from the Divine.
What am I here to do today?
What is my mission today?
How can I serve today, exactly as I am?
Not as some future, improved version of yourself. As you are now, with your gifts, your lived experience, your relationships, and even the truth of your shadow.
This is a powerful question. If you ask it sincerely, especially when you first wake up, the answer comes. I’ve seen this again and again.
It rarely arrives as a booming inner voice. It comes sideways. An unexpected text. A line in a song that suddenly lands. A comment your partner makes as you shuffle into the kitchen half-awake. A sensation in your gut that won’t let go.
If you’re present, you’ll hear it.
How can you tell if it’s really the Divine?
It usually won’t match your expectations. It may be mildly unsettling. It might stretch you just past what feels comfortable or familiar. Sometimes it’s surprisingly small. Other times it’s larger than you thought you could handle.
This is where trust comes in.
The Divine doesn’t assign you something you’re not equipped to meet. You’ve spent your entire life developing these capacities. You might call them God-given or Goddess-given abilities. At times, they verge on what look like superpowers.
And every time you offer them, even slightly beyond your comfort zone, something remarkable happens. Your life comes into coherence. Your nervous system settles. Things line up. Others feel it too. They feel more alive, more inspired, sometimes even more healed, simply through your presence.
Most of us love that feeling. That sense of coherence. Of being where you belong.
This is what happens when you receive your marching orders and say yes.
I know people respond very differently to the upheaval happening in the world right now. Some check out. Some obsessively consume the news and agonize. Some celebrate what’s unfolding. Some take to the streets. Others work quietly, radiating consciousness in less visible ways.
What matters now is not which role you choose.
What matters is that your service comes from essence.
This is a time when small acts of coherence have outsized effects. You may never see the full chain of impact. You may never know who was helped or how. But the effect is real.
There’s truth in the old metaphor of a butterfly flapping its wings and influencing distant weather systems. Small shifts in consciousness can ripple far beyond what the mind can track.
This is what it means to be an awakening Avatar.
If you’re reading this and feeling a resonance, you are one. No doubt about it.
We’ve all been living inside a trance, a collective conditioning that trains attention away from our deeper knowing. Even the most conscious people I know move in and out of clarity. Awakening isn’t a permanent state. It’s a practice.
And the place where that practice becomes most real is service.
The greatest enemy of true service is having your mind run by outside programming. That’s why meditation matters. Not to escape the world, but to practice disengaging from the noise and returning, again and again, to stillness.
Even brief moments of that stillness are priceless. Let it be your North Star.
And don’t do this alone. Find others who value coherence, presence, and service. We amplify each other more than we realize.
A 3–5 Minute Morning Practice: Receiving Your Orders
Try this tomorrow morning.
Before the phone.
Before the news.
Before the familiar mental loops.
Sit or lie comfortably. One hand on your chest, one on your belly. Take three slow breaths, letting the exhale be longer than the inhale.
Then ask, quietly and sincerely:
What are my marching orders today?
Don’t strain for an answer. Don’t analyze. Just listen with your whole body. Notice sensations, images, feelings, or subtle impulses.
If nothing comes, that’s fine. Stay open. Often the response arrives later, through a conversation, a message, or a moment that suddenly feels charged.
When something does land, don’t overthink it. Ask only one follow-up question:
Am I willing to say yes to this?
That’s enough.
A Gentle Invitation
If this way of living speaks to you, I write regularly about awakening Avatar consciousness, embodiment, healing, and service here on Substack.
You might also explore my book Awakening the Avatar Within, and this spring I’ll be releasing a new book, Avatar, Master Healer, for those who feel called to go deeper into this work.
For now, start simply.
Tomorrow morning, ask for your marching orders.
Then listen.
And see what shifts.
Lighten up and step up.
